Today we lose another one ... another experienced and very respected and well liked member of the NPD.
Officer Americo Tavares started his career with the NPD over twenty
years ago - he’s a life long resident of the Borough and during his time
here at the NPD he has quietly contributed to the protection and
Service of this community every day he worked.
Officer Tavares has been the model of what it means to be a police officer - always doing his job and doing it well while earning the respect of his community and his co -workers
... and popular? ... PLEASE!! ... I can’t tell you how many times that
I have been approached by people that upon finding out I am a Naugatuck
Officer immediately ask if I know Officer Tavares and then follow up
with “he’s such a nice guy” ...
Well, this “Nice Guy” is hanging
it up at the end of his shift today ...Officer Americo Tavares will be
greatly missed at the NPD and at the many areas he frequented on his
daily patrol ... including Western School where he was the official-
unofficial school officer!
