NPD FACEBOOK POST - 10.6.14 - Fall Driving Tips

Good Monday Morning everyone

Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend. We are officially swinging into full Fall mode, as it has been noticeably chilly the past couple mornings. Autumn is in my opinion the best time of year in New England – And here in the Borough, there is nothing more scenic than coming down one of our many higher elevated roads and looking below to see the trees turning!

As pretty as the Fall can be, there are some hazards this time of the year – So today Id like to hit on some safety issues concerning fall driving. Lets start with the most obvious – having hot cider fall on your new sweat shirt…Oh, wait a minuet – that’s not the right one…oh, here it is – “watch out for leaves”!! During the fall leaves obviously will collect on the road and when these leaves get wet they will make the roadway slippery and decrease tire traction. Also, as the temps continue to fall, wet leaves can then become icey and mimic icey road conditions. On top of that, leaves can also cover road markings and pot holes …leading to hot cider being spilled on your new sweater!!

Some other hazardous issues to be aware of in the fall include; day light savings related issues – as the days get shorter, the fading light make it more difficult to see people, animals and other cars , please be sure to adjust your speeds accordingly, particularly at dusk. The same applies in the morning when the sun is coming up – the autumn sunrise is often very bright and creates a large glare- A good pair of sunglasses can often reduce the glare …and lets face it – they make you look cool as well!!

On a final note – Bangor, The Nauga-Duck of Justice would like to speak for his furry friends and remind everyone that Fall is an active breeding time for Deer. Bangor advises that Deer are more apt to running into the roadways during dusk and dawn. Deer also tend to travel in groups, so if you see one cross – remember it is likely you will then see another not far behind.

Well – that’s it, Please have a great Monday and remember – we are only a call away if you need us!!
