5/10/2016 - 5/10/16 - NPD Call activity Report (for Monday 5/9/16) & Stranger safety Tips

Happy Tuesday everyone,

The weather is starting a bit chilly but will warm up nicely … definitely no weather related driving issues to worry about which is a good change of pace!

The NPD put out a press release yesterday concerning two incidents that occurred on Bridge Street near lower Spring Street in which an unknown male offered rides to juveniles. The first incident occurred on Saturday at about 11:30 AM involving two females and the second occurred yesterday (Monday) at about 7:45 AM involving five juveniles (2 females and 3 males). The juveniles involved are between the ages of 10-14 years old. The juveniles described the suspect as a white male between the age of about 40-50 years old, unshaven with a balding hairline and a pony tail. The vehicle the suspect was driving was described as “red”.

We obviously would like to speak to anyone that might have any information about these incidents or concerning the possible identity of the suspect.  Anyone with information can call the Naugatuck PD at 203-729-5221 or the NPD Confidential Tip Line at 203-720-1010.

The NPD would also like to remind parents of some basic safety tips to pass along to your children when they are out walking;

  • Know where your children are – make sure you communicate with each other
  • Make sure they always walk with someone – there is safety in numbers
  • Have a cell phone handy – have speed dials set for you and the police / 911
  • Don’t walk with headphones on - Ears are an important piece of sensing danger!
  • If you encounter anyone suspicious that approaches you run, yell and seek help – report the incident to the police as soon as possible
