2/19/2016 - 2/19/16 NPD Call Activity Report for Thursday 2/18/16

Happy Friday everyone,

We are finally at the end of the work week and luckily the weekend weather looks to be uneventful and very spring like, in or very near the 50 degree mark – so please, ENJOY!

In police related issues, The NPD periodically receives reports that there are solicitors canvassing neighborhoods in Naugatuck, some of whom have a solicitor’s permit with identification and others who do not.

Yesterday at about 5:15 PM the NPD received a call from a resident on Lincoln Street advising that a a male subject knocked at his door claiming to be from “Eversource”. The resident advised that the man was wearing an “Eversource” shirt but didn’t have credentials when asked for them.  The resident advised that he turned the man away and overheard him as he was walking away from “Vivid Solar Company”. The resident advised he did not see the man stop at any other residences and left heading towards Auburn St..

We had a similar report received earlier in the day at about 1:00 PM from a resident on Andrew Ave. involving a black male stating he was with “Direct Energy”.

The police department did not have any record of solicitors out in neighborhoods yesterday and no other reports of similar occurrences were received. However the NPD would like to remind all citizens that it is not advisable to let anyone you do not know into your home for any reason - to use the bathroom, get a drink of water, or use the phone, etc...

If someone you do not know comes to your door – keep the screen door shut or utilize a safety chain if you have one. Ask them for identification and a copy of their solicitors permit issued by the Town through the NPD.  Be aware of what kind of car they are driving and a description of the person. If they do not have any identification and seem suspicious contact the Naugatuck PD as soon as possible at 203-729-5221 or 911 if it is an emergency.
