5/11/2015 - 2nd Arrest of BURNS, Brendan - Stalking Victims

PRESS RELEASE

On Friday May 8th 2015 the Naugatuck Police arrested Mr. Brendan Burns for the second time in a week regarding incidents that he was involved in that occurred on Tuesday May 5th 2015. Burns was initially arrested by this agency on May 5th 2015 after he approached a 14 year old female at about 4:20 PM and repeatedly followed her in his vehicle and tried to pick her up. In that incident the female ran from the subject and notified friends playing in a park nearby of the incident. The friends then approached Burns who was seated in his vehicle nearby and became involved in a confrontation with them. Burns fled the area and in doing so struck one of the subjects that confronted him with his vehicle. Burns then struck a vehicle on Meadow street and fled that accident. He was located a short time later near is residence in Seymour by the Seymour PD and taken into custody.

The most recent arrest occurred after another female victim (17 year old juvenile) advised Naugatuck Police that she saw Burns picture in the news and recognized him as the same subject that approached her and tried to pick her up on the same date, Tuesday May 5th 2015.

The victim advised that Burns approached her while she was walking alone on Millville Ave. at about 3:00 and 4:00 PM. The victim advised that Burns approached her in a dark colored pick up and initially drove past her, then turned around in the St Paul church parking lot and came back towards her. The victim advised that Burns stopped and asked her several times if she wanted a ride. The victim stated that she advised the Burns “no” each time and that she continued walking, and that the eventually drove off.

Naugatuck Police investigated the complaint and found similarities that linked this incident to the initial incident in which Burns was arrested on May 5th. Naugatuck PD submitted an arrest warrant for Burns that was signed and Burns was picked up and arrested by Naugatuck PD. Burns was charged in this incident with 1 count of Breach of Peace and was released on Bond. He is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on May 13, 2015.
