NPD Facebook Post - 4/21/15 / Too Bad Tuesday Arrest Review

Greetings Everyone and Happy “Too Bad” Tuesday to you all!!... Ill have you know I hand picked a few gems for you this week ... please sit back… read, learn from the mistakes from others …and enjoy!!

Of course though, …before we begin I must put out our usual disclaimer:

"All persons in these segments are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and we reserve the right to change the names of those involved (if names are used at all) to protect the innocent" ...

…So – here we go… The NPD – TOO BAD TUESDAY – week of arrests review:

On April 13, 2015 at about 12:45 AM Officer Martinez was monitoring traffic on North Main Street when he observed a vehicle exit Route 8 and noticed that the vehicles left rear taillight was not illuminated. Officer Martinez stopped the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver she advised that she was aware her tail light was not working properly.
A check of the vehicles registration revealed that the cars registration was suspended due to lack of insurance on the car. Officer Martinez spoke with the driver who advised that she did in-fact have insurance and provided a copy of her insurance card, which Officer Martinez noticed was carried through Geico Insurance…. To confirm the coverage…and not wanting to pass up a chance to talk with a gecko…. Officer Martinez called Geico insurance… upon reaching Geico insurance, he was advised that the gecko was unavailable but that the insurance policy on the vehicle in question was valid as of the date of the call… The representative then repeatedly asked him if he “knew what day Wednesday was”… Officer Martinez reports that he initially tried to ignore the question but that the Geico representative was extremely assertive …not to mention that he he kept referring to Officer Martinez as “Mike”….Officer Martinez stated that he reluctantly conceded ….and advised the Geico representative that Wednesday …would in fact be ….Hump Day…officer Martinez advised that upon hanging up with Geico he advised the driver that she would need to repair the tail light and clear up the active suspension on her vehicle through DMV… The operator was issued a summons to appear on the suspended registration violation… No word on if Officer Martinez will be featured in a future Geico Insurance commercial….

On April 14th, 2015, at about 9:44 PM Naugatuck Officer Kehoss observed a white Toyota traveling on south Main Street at a high rate of speed. Officer Kehoss followed the vehicle onto Route 8 Northbound and clocked the vehicle traveling in excess of 100 MPH. Officer Kehoss advised that in addition to the vehicles excessive speed, he also observed the vehicle weaving through multiple lanes as it passed other cars and also observed the car cross the right shoulder fog line as it traveled through the curve of the roadway…. All of these driving signs were noted to be extremely dangerous and Officer Kehoss promptly initiated a stop of the vehicle on Route at near exit 29.
Officer Paul Markette assisted Officer Kehoss with the stop and they spoke with the operator ….who they quickly determined was NOT Nascar driver Jeff Gordan in disguise… They determined this because it appeared that the driver was actually able to successfully pass other cars and appeared to be winning … (as you can see – I’m NOT a big Jeff Gordan fan…but to be fair – heres a joke for you Jeff Gordan fans; … What does Jeff Gordan do after winning a race? … He turns off his Playstation!!…. - …. Ill be here all week folks… and don’t forget to tip your bartenders and waitresses ….)
..Anyway….back to our incident…. The officers spoke with the operator who advised that “he thought he was going about 60MPH”… I don’t know about you folks, but confusing 60 MPH for 100 MPH is not easy to do… unless….your…impaired… …and wouldn’t you know it… as the officers spoke with the operator Offer Kehoss advised he could smell an odor of burnt marijuana coming from vehicle…. The operator stated that he had in fact smoked marijuana around 2PM that day… The operator showed signs of impairment and was placed into custody, and a room at the NPD B&B was secured… .... Non- Smoking of course … Upon being booked into the Inn, the operator was asked if he would submit to a urine test….he politely refused stating that he knew he was going to “pee dirty” anyway…. Nothing like a little honesty….even if it was later rather than sooner!! …officers advised that there were two passengers in the vehicle, and that one of the operators had apparently forgotten her name…so she quickly made one up…. Luckily the officers located her CT ID card under her seat… and were able to remind her of her name… oddly though, when officers ran THAT name through their “magic computers”, they discovered she had three (3) active "arrest warrants on file for “Failure to appear in court”…Officer Kehoss and Markette determined that she is apparently a VERY forgetful person… and in order to help her with her memory, they promptly booked her into a “memory inspired suite” at the Inn… She was provided with a memorable “Bars and Cinder-block” View room containing a “memory steel mattress”…
The two individuals were charged as follows:
HE - Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs, Speeding to Endanger and Reckless Driving.
SHE – Three (3) counts of Failure To Appear….

On 04/17/15, at about 12:07 AM, Officer Borys observed a grey 1993 Subaru Legacy (CT registration 450ZWT), traveling south on North Spring Street, proceed through the stop sign at the intersection with Mallane Lane without coming to a complete stop. Officer Borys stopped the car and a check of the registration plate showed that the vehicles registration was “suspended” (Ohh Boy….Here we go again… Take it easy though – No Geico insurance calls on this one…) Officers Deeley and Bastos assisted Officer Borys with the investigation and spoke with the operator. While interviewing him, he stated he had recently consumed a couple beers right before going to his car and the officers stated that they could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. They requested the operator perform some sobriety tests to which he agreed…and failed…. I know – I know…you couldn’t see that one coming, but you have to know that while doing that standing on one leg-ie thingy… he advised the officers "I can't do this one sober"… gotta love the truth serum they’re putting in alcoholic beverages these days!!....
Officers Deely Bastos conducted a vehicle inventory and located a “folded up dollar bill” containing a small amount of a white powder in the driver side door pocket. Through the officers training and experience they determined the white powder was not pure cane sugar of which one would place into a cup of coffee, or confectionery sugar as one would sprinkle generously over a jelly D-Word….But instead the substance was tested and determined to be cocaine…. This of course contributed to the now mounting issues this motorist was now facing….Being familiar with our procedures, surely you figured that this particular motorist was booked into the NPD B&B … He was charged with various violations including Failure to stop for a stop sign, DWI, Operating a vehicle with suspended registration, Failure to carry minimum insurance on a vehicle, and last but not least…. Possession of illegal narcotics …. Which were housed in a genuine US one dollar bill… Id like to note while we are on the subject ….that THIS is one of the many the reasons your mother told you not to put money in your mouth…. Just saying….

…Well, thats all we have for you this week – Hope you enjoyed this weeks Too Bad Arrest review … Please - have a great Tuesday … and remember – We’ll be here if you need us!!
