****ARREST OF NHS BOMB SCARE SUSPECT ****

On March 16th 2015 Naugatuck Youth Division Detectives arrested a 17 year old juvenile for the January 29th 2015 bomb threat phoned in to Naugatuck High School. The juvenile offender is a resident of Naugatuck and was arrested after a lengthy and extensive investigation by Naugatuck Juvenile Detectives into the incident.

On January 29, 2015 at approximately 11:00 AM, Naugatuck police responded to Naugatuck High School on a report of a bomb threat called into the school. The call had been received from an unknown caller and information regarding the caller’s phone number did not appear at the time the call received by NHS personnel. Upon receiving the threat, the school was placed into a “Code Yellow” status where students were secured in place within the facility for several hours while the Naugatuck police and the Connecticut State Police bomb squad assisted representatives from the Naugatuck Board of Education in searching the building for evidence of explosives. The search yielded no evidence and the school was returned back to a normal operating status.

During the course of this investigation, Naugatuck Youth Division Detectives came upon information that another juvenile residing in Ohio had been responsible for similar incidents in jurisdictions throughout the United States and Canada. The Naugatuck Youth Division Detectives came upon this information through various undercover phone, internet and social media conversations conducted in conjunction to the Naugatuck incident investigation. The Naugatuck PD relayed this information to the other jurisdictions which has thus far resulted in the arrest of the juvenile in his home state of Ohio. It is anticipated that additional charges will be pending for similar incidents that have occurred in the other jurisdictions.
