2/21/2018 - PRESS RELEASE 2/21/18 - Gun Shots in area of LongView Terrace - School placed on Lockdown

February 21, 2018

At approximately 12:12 PM the Naugatuck Police responded to reports of gun shots heard in the Longview Terrace area near water company property. Naugatuck Police received information from a resident that resides on the water company property line that an individual was “hunting” and briefly spotted the individual who was “wearing camouflage”.

Due to the nature of the call and the close proximity to Maple Hill School the Naugatuck PD contacted the school and as a precaution the school was placed in lockdown.

The area of the Water company property in the area where this incident occurred is not legal for hunting. Naugatuck Police thoroughly searched the area with no contact with the described individual, however based on the search it was determined that that occupants and students of Maple Hill School were not in danger and as a result the school was removed from the precautionary lockdown at about 1:15 PM.

Naugatuck Police Officers will remain on scene of the school for the remainder of the school day and will continue investigating this incident in the area
