The Naugatuck Police Department has a long history of serving the Borough. Traditionally, Thursday has always been TBT on social media and we thought that we would take the opportunity to share some of the history of Naugatuck Police Department on our Face
book page. Naugatuck recognized its first Chief of Police in 1893, with the Naugatuck Police Department being formally organized by 1898 with a Chief of Police and three sworn officers.
The photo we are releasing today depicts the department 3-decades ago in about 1983. The Chief of Police at the time, Chief Mariano would require department members to hold a formal inspection on the Naugatuck Green followed by a department photograph for the Borough Calendar.
All of the officers photographed in this picture have long since left the department and many of us now struggle to identify some of the faces. As residents of Naugatuck maybe some of you remember these officers as familiar faces walking the beat downtown over the years? We hope that some of the historic photos we release in the coming weeks can help build an appreciation for the rich history of Naugatuck. #TBT #Naugatuck #Police
