NPD FACEBOOK PAGE - 9/3/14 First day of school
Today begins the new
school year here in Naugatuck. I posted this last night but wanted to post
again this morning.
For those of you with children – Today will be a hectic day
- having to get yourself and your kids into a new school routine is always
challenging - and for those without children or those whose children are grown
and out of your hair – today and the coming days are the times to start leaving
a little more time to get and from to work in the morning and late afternoon as
the school buses will be out and about again - Everyone Please Slow Down!!
Please remember a few key facts and tips regarding school
bus safety:
-
It is illegal to pass a school bus – All school
buses are equipped with both yellow and red flashing lights – Yellow warns they
are about to stop and red indicates they are stopped and that children are
entering or exiting the bus. Please also keep in mind that several Naugatuck
school buses are equipped with cameras that record any motorists that p[ass a bus
with red flashers on.
-
It is required that ALL TRAFIC stop in BOTH
DIRECTIONS when red flashers are on – the only exception is on a roadway
divided by a permanent barrier. ALL
traffic behind the bus MUST stop whenever red lights are flashing
-
The 10 foot area around a school bus is the most
dangerous for children entering and exiting a school bus.
-
NEVER pass a school bus on its right side
-
Always be alert around school buses and just as
important around school bus stops – as children are unpredictable! Children
become very comfortable with their surroundings and obtain a false sense of
security. This makes them more likely to take risks and ignore hazards
including failure to look both ways before crossing or entering the roadway.
Please drive carefully and be patient, leave plenty of time
to get to your destination. Have a great day and enjoy the new school year!
