7/3/2015 - Press Release - NPD Assistance in Locating Evading MV that struck Officer

The Naugatuck Police is requesting assistance from the public in identifying the operator of a vehicle that struck a Naugatuck police officer following the Fireworks event on Thursday evening 7/2/15.
At about 9:45 PM a vehicle described as a Grey or Light Gold colored Volkswagon Golf or GTI was traveling south on Church Street and disregarded an officers signal to stop. The vehicle proceeded through the intersection of Church Street onto Maple Street nearly striking crossing pedestrians and the officer at that location. The suspect vehicle then continued traveling east on Maple Street towards South Main Street where it became stuck in traffic congestion on the Maple Street Bridge. The operator was confronted by three additional officers that ordered the operator to stop, however the operator refused to comply and aggressively maneuvered the car back and forward several times and jumped the sidewalk located on the bridge. Upon jumping the side walk the vehicle struck one of the officers leg and fled east on Maple Street towards May Street. The officer involved was not seriously injured however he was treated and released from a local hospital for minor leg and ankle injuries.
Naugatuck Police are looking for information to identify the suspect vehicle and operator.
The vehicle is described as a grey or gold VW GTI or Golf with a partial CT registration of “5A”. The Suspect is described as a white male, thin build about approximately 18-23 years of age. A female passenger was in the vehicle was described as a white female, approximately 18-23 years of age with dark blonde hair.
