The victim found unresponsive in the Naugatuck River was pronounced deceased upon arrival at Waterbury Hospital this evening. The victim has been identified as 12 year old Jada Ivory of Naugatuck.
Members of the Naugatuck Fire Department with assistance from The Beacon Falls Fire Department, Oxford Fire Departments and the Thomaston Dive Team located the girl in the Naugatuck River after she disappeared in the water while swimming with friends.
The investigation into the events leading to the girls drowning are still being investigated by the Naugatuck police and no further details are available at this time.

5/11/15
On 5/11/15 at about 4:30 PM the Naugatuck Police received a call of a possible drowning victim in the Naugatuck River. Responding officers were advised that an 11 year old female was swimming in the river with friends and had possibly fallen off a rock into the water. Witnesses advised that the female was seen going down stream and that they observed the females head go under water.
Naugatuck PD was assisted by Naugatuck and several other area FD’s in searching the river for the victim, who was located unresponsive just after 6:00 PM. The female was located in the river and was transported to a local hospital.
No further information is available for release at this time however an update will be provided as soon as information becomes available.
